Although daily hair washing is not recommended, when inevitable, it is advisable to use non-aggressive shampoos to avoid drying of the scalp and to prevent subsequent itching. It is a common belief that the more foam a cleansing product produces, the stronger its cleaning action. However, the foam produced by industrial brand shampoos include harsh de-tensioning ingredients found in engine degreasers and floor cleaners, albeit at lesser concentrations. These ingredients, including but not limited to Sodium Lauryl Sulfate, purposefully strip important protective oils and lipids (fats) from the skin, leaving it exposed to elements and aggravating the evaporation of water, thereby making the scalp dry and flaky.
Massage a small amount of shampoo throughout wet hair. Rinse and repeat as needed.
